Can't get enough of that Pit Boss

Now, at the risk of stating the obvious, I like dogs, but I am very much more of a "cat" person at heart. That being said, I have to tell you that I am really hooked on the television series, "Pit Boss"!

For those of you who never watched it, it is a reality show about a former movie actor named Francis "Shorty" Rossi who happened to have spent 10 years in jail before turning his life around and becoming an actor/Talent Agent/Pit Bull Activist. Upon his release from prison, Shorty vowed to dedicate the rest of his life to rescuing and placing good homes for his Pit Bulls, whom he swears have "always been there" for him.

Shorty is an L.P. (Little Person) with a bit of a foul mouth and a big heart! He is the owner and boss of his own little people talent agency called "Shortywood" and uses a huge portion of that money for his other business known as "Shorty's Rescue."

The show is primarily centered around Shorty and his dogs, his three employees (and friends) Ashley Brooks, Ronald Lee Clark and Sebastian Saraceno ~ all Little People also.

For me; however, the heart of the show is the somewhat touching (and sometimes humorous) interaction between these very diverse individuals. Ashley is the laid back, fun-loving receptionist who is vying for a career as a comedian.  Both Ronald, who is Shortywood's Booking Assistant and Seb who is its' Entertainment Coordinator, are pursuing careers as professional actors and have both landed roles in the up-coming movie, "Sleeping Beauty" starring Julia Roberts. These guys are also the muscle behind Shorty's Rescue and they are in it for the love of the dogs.

"Pit Boss Theme Re-Mix" (Love this!)

To be honest, this show has forced me to see Pit Bulls in a different light than they are usully portrayed by the public eye. It just proves to me what I have always thought  all along~ that it is "people"  who usually make an animal mean or dangerous and NOT the animal itself!

Kitty Litter Cake

KITTY LITTER CAKE

Ingredients:
1 box German Chocolate cake mix
1 box white cake mix
1 package vanilla sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
A dozen or so small Tootsie Rolls

Serving Dishes and Utensils:
1 NEW cat litter box
1 NEW cat litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

Directions:
1) Prepare and bake cake mixes according to directions in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of the green food coloring to one cup cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large, bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moise but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

3) Unwrap three Tootsie Rolls and heat in microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three or more rolls. Burry the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle the remaining vanilla cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

4) Heat five more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrap them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with the scooper. Enjoy!

Crazy Cat Lady

I honestly can't tell you how many times my friends have teased me about my love for cats and have very kiddingly, mind you, referred to me as a Crazy Cat Lady. Adding that they can see me as being known as the "old crazy cat lady of the neighborhood"!

To this, I always reply, "Well, I have been called much worse, you know!" But truthfully, it would be a title which I, myself, would wear very proudly with honor as I simply and earnestly adore cats!!!

I suppose you could say that it is in my blood. After all, my grandmother took in every stray thing she could find until the day she died and both my parents are complete and total animal lovers!!  The funny thing is, I actually wasn't brought up around cats as my mom was always more of a dog person. I guess you might say that I turned her into a cat lover now as she has always been attached to my own kitties.  She even feeds (and protects like a mommy lion) this stray cat which is hanging around my parents house lately and she is trying her hardest to make a house cat out of her. LOL!!!

What's even cooler is that my hubby is just as nuts about cats as me ~ no seriously he is! So, I guess someday we will both be known as the "crazy cat people" down the street!

Sibling Rivalry

So, lately my cats Kiki and Midnight have been fighting over, believe it or not, my pillow! Kiki is what you might call a "copy cat" and has the mentality of "monkey see, monkey do." Everything Midnight does she eventually does, too. It's hysterical, really it is!

Every night for the past few weeks or so, Midnight follows me to bed and jumps on top of my pillow, cuddles himself rather comfortably on my head and purrs me to sleep. Then, sometime during the night; however, there appears to be a changing of the guard as it is Kiki who is lying on my pillow when I wake up.

A few times, they have even squabbled at 3 o'clock in the morning over whose pillow it is! I will hear a "hsssss" or a growl from Kiki (because Midnight never does either of those annoying kitty things) as she jumps down off of the bed and Midnight takes his place on "his" pillow ~ LOL!

Fun Friday: Surprised Kitty (Original)

Needless to say, this cute little video won "The Most Cutest" baby animal on the Animal Planet channel! You can easily see why ~ doesn't get much more adorable than this, eh?

Saying "Good-bye"

Sadly, today Cuddles, one of Page's beloved kitties, passed into the Summerlands. She had to be put down as old age was becoming a serious issue and her family could no longer bear to see her suffer. It was indeed a selfless act as I, myself, have had to make such a difficult decision many times over and have felt the pain and sadness of losing a long-time treasured member of the family. She was about 16 years old.
Rest in peace, Cuddles. I am sure you will be sadly missed...

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamonds’ glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumns’ rain
When you awaken in the mornings’ hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft star that shines at night
I am the oceans’ calming waters,
Which carries Earth Mother’s sons and daughters
So do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die
And do not stand at my grave and mourn,
I am not there; I have been reborn

"My Cat From Hell"

Has anyone ever seen the Animal Planet series, "My Cat From Hell" hosted by Jackson Galaxy? Jackson is "a musician by night and a Cat Behaviorist by day."

I can't help but to love this show! Not only do I find it educational as far as cat behavior is concerned, but I think it is so fascinating how Jackson is able to "re-adjust" the cat guardian's behavior and attitude as well in cases where it is the "human" behaviour which is causing a majority of the cat bahavioral issues in the household.

Not to say, that is, that my kitty cats behavior is purrfect all of the time. but some of the cat problems I have seen this guy deal with is completely beyond anything I had ever imagined as a cat owner/mom.

The thing I love the most about this show; however, is how beautifully Jackson handles both the cats and their people. It is so wonderful to hear about all the success stories of people who loved their animals so much that they would do anything to keep them rather than give them up.

"My Cat From Hell" deals with the extreme cases where cat owners have reached the point where they have tried everything and Jackson was their last hope! Not only is Jackson extremely knowledgable about cats, but he is very educated when it comes to various cat breeds as well. The genuine love and affection he has for these cats is heart-warming and it shows.  I can't help but to share in his joy while watching him.

Jackson Galaxy has written a book called, "Cat Daddy" and I can not wait to read it after which I will write a book review for this blog.  Have a fantastic day everyone!!!

Fun Friday

WHICH PET WOULD GO BEST WITH EACH SIGN?

Aries: Anything, as long as it's got a lot of energy!

Taurus: A turtle: it¹s slow-moving, doesn¹t need a lot of attention, and won¹t compete with its owner for food.

Gemini: A talking parrot; need I say more? Well, of course I do, but--

Cancer: Anything, as long as it needs to be nurtured

Leo: A big, bold, ferocious feline, as long as it doesn¹t compete with its owner¹s place in the sun.

Virgo: Let¹s see, I have to get up at 7:30 to feed it, let it out at 7:45, at 10:00 I need to go to the grocery store to pick up three cans of food, which will cost $3.86, including tax--

Libra: Hm, good question. One the one hand, a dog is active, affectionate, and companionable. On the other hand, a cat is pretty independent and won¹t require as much time and attention. Oh, I don¹t know. What would you do? Are you sure?

Scorpio: A cat. Secretive, mysterious, and unpredictable? What¹s there not to like?

Sagittarius: A horse, of course! Let¹s hope it¹s got enough stamina to keep up with me.

Capricorn: Do I have to pay for it?

Aquarius: A hamster. First, I¹ve got to set up a detailed cage with tubes going from here to here, and an energy sensor--they don¹t make anything like that? That¹s okay, I¹m sure what I come up with will be much better.

Pisces: Fish. When their owner forgets about them for weeks on end, they¹re easy to replace. If Pisces remembers to replace them...
